Help Anne get back to her family this christmas!

Violent demonstrations, closed airports and blocked roads. Right now a lot of tourists are stranded in Peru, including Anne.

Across almost all of Peru, protesters have taken to the streets, and in several places, it has ended in violent battles between demonstrators and the police. At least 15 have been reported killed and hundreds injured since the demonstrations took off last week.

In the middle of that is Anne Kamstrup, who is trapped in her hotel room, in a country where it is currently extremely difficult to get out.

"Everything has been shut down. All roads are blocked. Flights are canceled because protesters vandalized the airport and runway. It is a situation where there are no rules or laws that apply. Protesters take matters into their own hands. There is a lot of fear. No one knows how this is going to develop. Anne describes it as a civil war."

Unfortunate timing

Me (Anne's partner Youri) and Anne have been traveling for a while now, working as Digital Nomads in South America. Last week I was bitten by a street dog in Nazca. Even though the bite itself was harmless, there was a risk of getting rabies and my health insurance flew me back to the Netherlands since Peru didn't have the required vaccine available.

This all happened one day before the riots in Peru broke out. I was put on the last plane out of Arequipa to Lima, and then to Amsterdam. Allianz Globetrotter insurance would not cover my partner to travel along. Leaving Anne behind, she is now trapped in Peru.
