Help Annays pay for her last year at Wooster
Hello everyone,
My name is Annays Yacaman, and I am a first-generation, low-income college student from the southwest side of Chicago. I attend the College of Wooster, located in Wooster, Ohio, where I study Political Science (US National Politics emphasis) and a minor in Latin American Studies, on the Pre-Law track. I am Mexican and Honduran/Palestinian. I am also queer and non-binary.
I am asking for your help to raise $5900 to cover the cost of my last year at The College of Wooster, ($2140 for each semester) as well as to pay my remaining balance from this past year of $1618.02.
My goal is to attend graduate school to get a Master's in Public Policy as well as law school. I intend to become a constitutional lawyer, whose primary focuses are on reproductive and immigration justice. This upcoming year, I will be writing my Senior Independent Study , which will be focused on the factors that limit the reproductive autonomy of migrant women.
To accomplish these goals, I am asking for your help so that I can complete my last year at the College of Wooster, and be the first in my family to graduate with my Bachelor's Degree.
During my time at The College of Wooster, I have managed to maintain over 5 jobs at once, while also helping lead several student organizations such as Latinas Unidas de Wooster, the First Generation Student Organization, Campus Council, the Sexual Respect Coalition, and maintaining membership at organizations such as the Future Alumni Network, Trans Queer People of Color, and the NAACP. One of my jobs was being a Resident Assistant for the past two years to first-year Wooster students. However, I will no longer be a Resident Assistant my last year at the college.
This summer, I have the honor of being an intern for United States Senate in the Washington D.C. office. I will have the rare opportunity to be paid for my work. As amazing and valuable as this experience is, I will be using this money to cover living costs for the summer, paying medical bills, and for costs next academic year, such as books, groceries, bills, medicine, etc.
At the end of my junior year, I was asked to pay a bill of $1618.02, which I still owed for housing. For my last year of my bachelor's, I have been awarded a generous package, but I will still be left to pay $2140 for each semester. I am asking for your help to raise $5900, so that I can focus on finishing my last year of undergrad, completing my time-intensive Independent Study, and searching for careers/schools for the next year, without having to work a number of hours that is unrealistic for the amount of responsibilities I will have every week. I have gotten by and even excelled at Wooster working the maximum amount of hours at Wooster that students are allowed to work, but with increased academic rigor, I want to give myself a fair chance to complete my last year on a high note. Moreover, being first-generation and low income, my family and I are unable to generate these funds on our own.
Any and all contributions are extremely appreciated! Thank you so much.
