My name is Anna. I am a mom to a mostly non-verbal autistic child. He is not potty-trained and requires extensive medical and psychiatric care.
I'm raising funds to help cover the medical, behavioral, and disability-related care for my son.
My non-verbal autistic 11-year-old son has become very violent and uncontrollable. He has attacked me multiple times and even left me with a black eye. He has even attacked our 9-year-old twin daughters—his sisters.
He stayed in a hospital for over a week and addressed some medical issues. Many of the doctors thought that he was having such behaviors because of these severe medical issues. They corrected the issue and sent us home in hopes that the behavior would improve.
It has not. He has again attacked me multiple times and began being very destructive again. Clearly, the medical issue was not the only thing going on.
It seems more clear now that he may possibly need temporary inpatient or residential behavioral care due to severe, escalating behaviors that are unsafe for him and for our family. We have exhausted every available path multiple times: Medicaid, state crisis services, respite programs, residential treatment centers, county resources, and hospital social work referrals. Multiple social workers are actively searching on our behalf. The answer has been the same everywhere—no placement without funding.
Because we do not qualify for Medicaid and do not have private insurance (nearly $800 per month for JUST HIM), no facility will accept him. Disqualification is based not only on income but also on assets. Our “assets” consist of a single family vehicle and the modest home we live in—nothing extravagant, nothing liquid, and nothing that can be used to pay for care. Despite this, we are considered ineligible.
This fundraiser is to help cover the cost of his hospital bills and temporary inpatient or residential placement so my son can receive specialized, therapeutic care focused on safety, stabilization, and skill-building. Funds will also be used for required evaluations, placement fees, medical and behavioral care not covered elsewhere, medications, therapies, and specialized treatments.
In addition, funds will be used exclusively for ongoing disability-related needs tied directly to his care and safety, including supplies such as diapers, wipes, bed pads, skin care products, dietary and nutritional needs, safety and support items, and the repair or replacement of essential household items damaged during behavioral episodes, as well as items that would ensure the safety of the rest of our family.
It is our full intent that after he is stabilized in the inpatient facility to bring him back home with us. We plan to also create him a fully functional and SAFE sensory room when he returns to us.
Donated funds will be kept in a separate, dedicated account for his care-related expenses. Receipts and documentation will be maintained to ensure transparency and proper use.
This situation is desperate and time-sensitive. My child is suffering, and our family is at a breaking point. We are not asking for extras or convenience—we are asking for access to care that should not be dependent on income or basic living assets, but currently is.
Any support, whether through donating or sharing, helps move us one step closer to getting my son out and into a place where he can actually heal and thrive. Thank you for reading, and for caring.
