Our dear friends daughter and sister Anna, was recently diagnosed with atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (aHUS) — a rare, life-threatening autoimmune disease that causes the body’s immune system to attack its own blood vessels. This leads to widespread clotting in small vessels, which can cause sudden kidney failure and damage to vital organs.
Her illness came on quickly and without warning. Within a short period of time, her kidneys were no longer able to function properly, requiring emergency hospitalization, dialysis, intensive care, and ongoing treatment. aHUS is not something that can be cured — it is a chronic condition that requires lifelong monitoring and specialized medication to prevent relapses that could again threaten her organs and her life.
The treatment itself is complex and demanding. It involves powerful medications that suppress part of the immune system, frequent medical visits, lab work, and a long recovery process. Even with treatment, the disease can have lasting consequences, including ongoing kidney issues, fatigue, high blood pressure, and the possibility of future complications.
We are asking for help to support her through this fight — not only to get through the crisis she’s facing now, but to help her manage the long road ahead. Any contribution, share, or message of support means more than we can put into words.
