If you know me, odds are you have heard me talk about my best friend, Anna.
Anna and I have been friends for 12 years, and in that time, she has helped me through all the tough stuff life throws at you. She is funny and kind, tenacious and hard working, and an absolute constant in my life.
Right now, she could use some help.
On September 26, Anna lost her car, her furniture, and most of her possessions when a 6 foot storm surge caused by Hurricane Helene hit her rented home in Punta Gorda. This was the first flood her neighborhood has seen in over 100 years. Most everything that was able to be saved was then destroyed less than two weeks later on October 10 when Hurricane Milton caused a 9 foot storm surge to once again hit her home. Most of her remaining possessions were either on her porch or in her home at the time.
Since the night of September 26, Anna has been staying in a hotel room with her two cats. Her car was considered a total loss. Her landlord had worked tirelessly to get her back into her apartment, only for the next storm to disrupt that progress. Her house did not get power for several days, which impedes the drying and repair process. It's unknown how long before she can move back into her apartment and regain a small bit of normalcy.
The funds raised here will help to cover her hotel expenses until she secures a place to live, food, and to give her a cushion as she starts to rebuild her life and look for a slightly dryer place to live.
