Help Anna and Katy fly safe

Donation protected
Anna and I are about to travel to Japan to celebrate my 40th birthday, we leave next saturday. Our flights were booked through Royal Brunei with a stopover in Brunei. Yesterday we read distressing reports that Brunei are changing their laws and that, as of april 3 this year, homosexuality will be punishable with death by stoning. The new laws effect the state owned airline and all passengers travelling through the country.

The advice from the airline and the Australian government is currently to "act straight", essentially try and sneak past and hope you dont get caught. We cant do that and would be too scared to try. We no longer feel safe to take the scheduled flight!

The view of the airline is that we are choosing a voluntary change and therefore will not get the cost refunded. We also need to buy new flights, which are quite expensive due to the late notice.

In addition to the stress caused by working out how to pay for the new flights, we're finding it all very upsetting due to the reason for the need to change and the lack of support and understanding from the Australian government. It would mean so much to us to be supported by our community at this difficult time.
