We’re Anna and Jason. You might already know that we were trying to get to Scotland—and we did! Our feet have hit UK dirt but our footing is far from solid. You may have already helped us get as far as we have gotten. In that case, thank you so, so much.

Update 8/20

Jason here, as Anna is not feeling well. We’ve arrived in Scotland!! but we aren’t out of the woods yet. Anna needs a wheelchair that can handle the roads and sidewalks here so she can go to school without overexerting herself, and we need to rent a place and at least have a bed in it to sleep, but we need those before our first dispersement of student aid, which is October.

We are thrilled to be in a new place with this exciting opportunity before us, and we are so, so, SO grateful for any assistance you can give!

Update 8/11

We were right on target until we weren’t. Our car was valued at $5000 last month, and we were counting on that.

The transmission apparently blew TODAY. In the middle of the assessment. That’s about $2000 off the value.

I hate, HATE, absolutely hate to have to ask. You have all been so kind. But we leave THIS WEEK, assuming the USDA stops ghosting us re: cats’ health certificates, and doing so down $2000 is going to be supremely difficult. Might even disqualify us from renting flats.

I am only asking because I am at a loss for what else to do. We are so close. I don’t want to fail now.

Unexpected costs have arisen. We will need to travel either to San Francisco or San Jose to complete our applications. We were going to be okay to do that…and then Jason fainted and fell down our stairs. Thankfully, apart from a concussion and an injury to his nose, he seems to be okay with minimal long term damage. He has, however, injured his drawing hand, limiting our income from Patreon and forcing a few days unpaid at his day job.

That is a pretty major problem at this point. We were counting on those incomes to get us to the application center. We are looking at airfare and the application center costs, to say nothing of what the eventual hospital and ambulance bills will be.

We have already asked for and received so much help, and we are so grateful. But we need to ask a little more to get us across the finish line. With your assistance, we have managed to raise enough to cover moving costs- it’s just this last bit that’s a problem now because of the unexpected fall.

We are also facing unexpected vet bills and the loss of our dog. Again, we were on track and okay until the fall. We’re aiming low, because we know we have already required so much help. Anything will help so much. Thank you, you kind souls.
