Help Anna and Her Wife Find a Safer Home

Hello,

My name is Anna. I've lived in Texas my entire life. I love Austin, and haven't ever found anywhere else I've felt happy. All of my memories are here, and being here has helped to shape the open-minded person that I am today, having snuck out of my conservative parents' way of thinking. Unfortunately, I can no longer stay here.

My wife and I have to leave Texas before, or by, the end of October. The place we want to move to has a couple of trailers for sale for under 50k. Strangely enough, they are going by the tax assessed value rather than hiking up the price just because they feel like it.

We currently live in Texas, and although Austin is very LGBTQIA+ friendly, Texas, overall, is absolutely not. My wife is trans, and we worry, every day, about what might happen to her.

In any case... her job is being shut down (IBM is buying the whole building, wtf?) August 15th, and our lease is up October 3rd of this year.

Now, there is a house we can rent for $1,350 per month with a $1,350 deposit, and aren't averse to it, but in all honesty, a house of our own would be so much better for many reasons. The main reason being that there is always a possibility that the owner of a property we rent could very easily turn around on us, and turn us out due to our queerness.

I'm not betting on that, as people have been much more accepting, politics aside, but there is always a non-0 chance. It would give us a stability we've never been able to have, and a permanent sanctuary for my wife. I really, really want a safe place for her.

If we can't raise enough to buy, at the very least it'll help us go in with a whole year's worth of rent, to guarantee we have a place by the time our lease is up here.

We would like to raise the entire 50k, ideally, but if we can get even 20,000 that would give us a healthy deposit on the house and cover the cost of the lot it is on so that we are not more financially strapped than we already are.
