Our sister Anna was diagnosed with triple negative grade three breast cancer in August 2025. Along with being our sister and a loving supportive presence in many peoples' lives, Anna is a special education preschool teacher who has been working in the field of special education for nearly twenty years.
We want Anna to be able to focus on healing, not be stressed by the loss of income and medical costs. The hardest part of this diagnosis was when we realized that due to the aggressive treatment required, including six months of chemotherapy, then surgery and recovery, and then radiation, it is unlikely that Anna will be able to work during this school year.
She’s most heartbroken that she won’t be able to return to the classroom and students that she loves. Added to that stress, paid leave and short term disability last for three months, and then she’ll have to pay out of pocket to be able to continue her current insurance coverage through COBRA.
We're asking for financial help from our friends, family, community, and anyone who wants to support a Seattle public school special education teacher get through a tough time. Any support that you are able to provide will help to alleviate financial stress and help Anna to focus on the most important thing- treatment and healing.
