SCOTTS VALLEY SENIOR NEEDS HELP - Save Ann from eviction!
When Ann Wahl sold her house in Aptos 15 years ago, and moved to Brookdale (formerly Oak Tree Villa), she thought she had enough funds for her retirement. She has now lived there on a low-income plan, for that many years, and at age 86, finds herself coming up short. She was served an eviction notice effective on June 5. (We have extended it slightly by getting help from Senior Legal Services, but still need money to pay back rent).
Ann’s small Social Security check covers her rent, and leaves her with only $400 left over, for her personal needs and toiletries. She has a caregiver-friend, Londa, who helps her as needed, at no charge. Londa has been helping Ann for the past 18 years, including years before she lived at Brookdale.
Ann is in a motorized wheelchair, and has several health issues, but gets around independently, and needs very little assistance. She travels to nearby shopping centers when she needs personal products, and all her prescriptions are shipped directly to her.
Through a series of clerical errors and oversights during the past year, Ann’s rent statements have charges that need to be removed, and that issue is being addressed by Londa and the accounting office. Meanwhile, Londa and two other friends have started this GoFundMe account https://gofund.me/f5272e6f) for her to help pay the legitimate charges that are past-due.
In Santa Cruz County, most assisted living facilities charge $8-10,000 a month. Ann not only can’t afford the rent at other facilities, she is unable to afford moving expenses. She’s lived in Santa Cruz County for 40 years.
A little about Ann: She worked for many years before her retirement. She was an avid golfer before she moved to Brookdale. She loves animals, especially dogs, and has always been an animal advocate. Ann has a great sense of humor, is very friendly, and knows most of her fellow residents at Brookdale.
To uproot her at her at her age would be devastating. Please help keep her stay where she now lives, by donating whatever you’re able to give. Any amount is welcome and appreciated, and helps her cause. If you are unable to donate, please SHARE on Facebook, or by text, to friends and family. Thanks in advance.
