On Friday, my 15-year-old daughter Aniyah was hit by a speeding car going presumably 60 mph while crossing the street. The impact threw her into the air and through the windshield. She was life-flighted to Memorial and has since undergone multiple surgeries.

Aniyah suffered a fractured skull, two broken legs, a shattered hip, and severe facial injuries. Her face is swollen, many of her teeth are broken, and her body is covered in deep cuts and bruises. Despite all this, she is miraculously stable — no internal bleeding, and no paralysis.

She has a long road ahead, with more surgeries and a painful recovery still to come.
