Help Anita Receive the Care She Needs at Home

Anita has lived an extraordinary life marked by survival, courage, family, and perseverance. Today, our family is asking for help so she can remain safely cared for in the home and community she knows.

At 96, Anita now needs assistance around the clock. Her age related care needs make it unsafe for her to be left alone, particularly when she needs help with mobility, transfers, personal care, and other daily activities.

Anita has clearly expressed that she wants to remain at home. Our family wants to honor that decision, but providing safe care 24 hours a day is far more than we can manage without help.

Anita’s Story

Anita was born in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1930.

She was still a child when Nazi persecution transformed her family’s life. Because of her Jewish ancestry, Anita experienced discrimination, fear, wartime displacement, bombing, and the loss of people she loved.

Her maternal grandparents, Siegfried and Irmgard Löwenthal, were deported and murdered during the Holocaust. Anita and her mother, Claira, survived the war in Frankfurt while much of the world they had known was destroyed around them.

In 1948, at only 18 years old, Anita left Germany and came to the United States. She eventually made her home in Binghamton, New York, where she raised a family and helped create the generations that surround her today.

Anita worked hard throughout her life. She became a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and the keeper of countless family stories and memories.

She survived a childhood defined by persecution and war. She crossed an ocean and started again. She built a life through resilience, determination, and love for her family.

Now our family is trying to be there for her.

Why We Are Asking for Help

Anita’s care needs have increased to the point that she requires dependable assistance throughout the day and night.

A caregiver is expected to cost approximately $25 per hour.

Providing care continuously for an initial 90-day period would cost:

$600 per day

$4,200 per week

$54,000 for 90 days

For that reason, we have established an initial campaign goal of $54,000.

This three-month period will give our family time to establish a safe and dependable care schedule while we continue working with government programs, healthcare providers, community organizations, and other agencies that may be able to cover portions of Anita’s long-term care.

We do not yet know how much assistance those programs will ultimately provide or how quickly services can begin. Anita needs care while those applications, evaluations, and arrangements are being completed.

This fundraiser is intended to help bridge that gap.

How Donations Will Be Used

Donations will be used for Anita’s direct care and related needs, including:

Around-the-clock in-home caregivers

Nighttime supervision and assistance

Help with mobility and transfers

Personal-care assistance

Medical equipment and home safety devices

Medical and personal-care supplies

Transportation to medical appointments

Other necessary healthcare and caregiving expenses

Temporary care while longer-term agency assistance is arranged

If outside agencies begin covering some caregiver hours, the money saved will remain dedicated to Anita’s care. This will allow the funds to last longer and help cover equipment, transportation, supplies, and other needs that may not be fully covered.

Who Will Manage the Funds

I am Anita’s grandson and the organizer of this fundraiser.

I will personally receive and manage the donated funds on Anita’s behalf. All funds will be used for her caregivers, medical needs, transportation, equipment, supplies, and related care expenses.

I will also provide updates as her care plan develops and as agency services become available so donors can understand how their support is helping.

Giving Anita Safety, Comfort, and Dignity

We are asking for enough help to make sure Anita is safe, treated with dignity, and not left without assistance during this vulnerable period of her life.

After everything Anita endured as a child and after a lifetime spent building and caring for her family we want her to experience this chapter of her life surrounded by comfort, familiar people, and the knowledge that she is not alone.

Every donation will help provide another hour of care.

At the estimated caregiver rate:

$25 provides approximately one hour of care

$4,200 provides approximately one week

No contribution is too small. Sharing this campaign is also an important way to help our family reach people who may be moved by Anita’s story.
