My name is Julia and I live with my family in Campobello, SC.
My mother, Anita, was recently dramatically affected by Hurricane Helene. I am seeking help for her in the aftermath of this storm.
Let me share with you a bit about my mother, Anita.
She is a kind and caring person, born in 1950. She is a Certified American Sign Language Interpreter. Anita cares so much for the deaf community. She also raised 5 children. One served in the Army for six years and now lives abroad, one is an RN, and three others are entrepreneurs. Anita is now retired and living on a fixed income. She is also a caretaker for her 93-year-old mother, Peggy.
Last Thursday night, Hurricane Helene blew through the small town of Campobello, SC. My mom, her mother Peggy, and her fiancé Ray, a war veteran, were all safely in her 200-year-old home passed down through generations. They were cooking a warm breakfast of bacon and eggs when the power suddenly went out. Ray and Anita briefly left the kitchen to find candles, and shortly after, a massive oak tree crashed right into the kitchen and living room of the small home.
Everyone escaped harm, but the home is now uninhabitable.
When we made our way to her house to check on them, we found them all safe. Our relief was profound. As always, she was extremely positive and upbeat, even lightening the mood by joking about remodeling. She was in awe of the great power of the storm and amazed by their protection.
My mother needs a home. Something simple that she can grow old in, gather her family around a table, and feel safe in for decades to come. And you know what, I dream of a dishwasher for her too - for once in her life.
As you can see, my mother is one of those people who is always smiling, positive, and thankful. She is never unkind, is always working hard, and serving others. She would never dream of asking for help.
So, on behalf of my brothers, sister, and I, we would be so very grateful for anything you feel moved to share in order to bless her with a safe home after this storm. Anita owns her land, and her children can build the home; she just needs funds for the materials to build a modest home. Any funds donated will also cover help with labor, removing the tree with a crane, and demolition and clean up of the old home.
Thank you for considering and for your generosity in advance.
With gratitude,
Anita’s children
