Asking the community to help Anita Reed and her 3 daughters have a reliable car after a year of going through 4 used cars that have caused terrible situations. As many of us know, Anita survived a traumatic and life-altering brain injury from an accident with 3 years of intensive therapies to follow. Even through all this, as soon as she was able to function, she’s been hitting the ground running, working nonstop and raising her daughters as the primary care provider and caring for their home. She still deals with symptoms and effects of the brain injury every day,
Having to pay for 4 cars again and again has put her in an uncompromising situation. The first car caught on fire!!! The second car was a 20 year old car that broke down and it cost more to fix than it was worth. The third car was totaled in an accident in Riverwest which was not her fault and the other driver had no insurance and the police happened to be witness to this too. The 4th car, a 2006 Honda Pilot, was bought from a used car lot. The day she got this car, myself, Anita and another henna artist Marcel were driving to a henna gig in Waukesha. A woman driving next to us honked and told us that the car’s entire frame and wheels were caving in. We pulled over and had the car towed. Another mechanic confirmed that the entire bottom was rusted and the car was sitting on the axel. He told us that we were lucky that it didn’t fall apart on the highway because it’s so dangerous.
Anita tried to return the “lemon” the very next day but the car dealer wouldn’t let that happen and told her he would fix it. Now, 3 months later, the car is again sitting on the axel as it’s so rusted. Anita has called the car dealer and hasn’t been able to get an answer for weeks. She needs a reliable car for all her work. She delivers Meals on wheels and her henna business of 12 years requires her to drive all over. she relies on every penny to support her family. Any amount that you could spare would be appreciated to help her and her girls have a safe car.
Rima Shah has known Anita for years and has worked many henna gigs with her. The money raised will go directly to a down payment for a used car.
