Help Anita Be Comfortable While Bedridden
Donation protected
I am a 58 year old woman with Muscular Dystrophy, a wife and
mother. Been disabled all my life, since birth. Used a wheelchair
since I was 10 years old. Have had a very productive life, with the
help of God! Went to college at East Carolina University , got my
degree in Social Work, (didn't want to depend on the government,
so I had several jobs). I also pledged AKA Sorority at ECU.
Unfortunately, 9 years ago, I got sick and was admitted to the hospital.
Again, a year later, with pneumonia, I was admitted to the hospital. At this
time, a nurse broke my arm while moving me. The arm she broke was
the arm I Ieaned on to support myself, while sitting up in my wheelchair.
After she broke my arm, there went my independence. I now, am
bedridden 24/7, with g-tube (for feeding), trach (to breathe), and cared
for by home health nurses and my husband who has Cerebral Palsy. To
care for me, my husband crawls on the floor or walks with crutches,
to get around when we don't have a nurse (which is often).
My husband has to do a lot to help me and it gets hard sometimes.
Especially, to use the bathroom. I am in need of a PureWick
(external catheter for females). This would help my husband and me,
not struggle so much when I need to use the bathroom (when we don't have a
nurse). It's a costly necessity, However, because we are on fixed
income, we will need help purchasing it. My husband's income from his
medical retirement is all the income we have. I worked, but not long
enough to get any government help. Medicare will pay but I am not
eligible for it right now. I am asking you for help to purchase the PureWick
system and the catheters. All donations will go toward the purchase of a 2
years supply. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for
all contributions toward the purchase.
