Let's get to the point - a queer, neurodivergent couple in Pittsburgh needs to raise emergency funds to repair  flooding from both fresh and unclean water in their basement. If that's enough for you to pitch in,  do!

Here's the full story:



My friend Anita is a queer, indigenous, neurodivergent woman,  and an all around force of peace and goodness in the world. In the time I have known her, she's taught me so many things about the many things she knows about (Books! Making art! Autism! Taking care of Animals! Growing Plants!) AND a lot about showing up and taking care of the people  you love.

Anita loves fiercely, and her number one love is her wife, Joi. Joi and Anita have been together for 13 years and faced various trials and tribulations.  After much dreaming, hard work, and luck, they were able to get money together to purchase a little home in McKees Rocks for themselves and their brood of animal friends (Shout out, Riggs, Numi, and Mooji) in August 2020.

Unfortunately, shortly after moving into the home, they realized there were major issues with basement flooding. Despite trying to address these issues through insurance and a home warranty, the problems with the basement have gotten worse and worse, and now fresh water AND brown water has been flooding the basement.  In the last two days, Anita and Joi received a quote that the repairs needed on the basement will cost $16,000. The representative from the repair company asked if that was in Anita's budget. Anita wondered, "Is that in anyone's budget in McKees Rocks?". 

Antia and Joi are two of the kindest, gentlest, and most giving people I've ever met -- but the racist, ableist system that capitalism built doesn't provide for kind, gentle, and giving people. That's why we need to ask the community to lift up Anita and Joi in ways that the system never did.  If you are able, please donate any amount, or share and spread the word. We need to raise funds as soon as possible to address the conditions in their home.

If we raise the initial goal, I will plan to raise it so we can continue to meet the needs of these beautiful people who are so special to me.
