Hi, my name is Van, and I’m fundraising for my brave and loving boyfriend, Anh Le, who is currently battling Stage 3 Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC), a serious and aggressive form of kidney cancer.

 

In just a few short months, cancer has turned our lives upside down. Anh has endured two major surgeries just days apart, a terrifying ICU stay due to sepsis, and he’s now preparing for a third life changing surgery in July. Through all of this, he hasn’t been able to work since May, and we’re facing an overwhelming wave of medical and financial challenges.

Anh’s Medical Journey So Far

 

• First Major Surgery:  Kidney Tumor Removal

Anh was diagnosed with Stage 3 RCC when doctors discovered a 23 cm tumor on his left kidney. He underwent a radical nephrectomy to remove the kidney and tumor. The surgery was difficult, both physically and emotionally, but it was the first major step in his fight against cancer.

 

• Second Emergency Surgery: Colon Rupture, Sepsis & ICU Stay

Just days after the kidney surgery, Anh experienced a medical emergency: his colon ruptured, likely due to surgical stress and complications. He was rushed into emergency surgery, where doctors performed a temporary ostomy to save his life.

 

Soon after, he developed sepsis, a life threatening infection that placed him in the ICU for 5 days. He remained in the hospital for three weeks, fighting to stay alive and begin the long process of healing. The physical and financial toll from this hospital stay has been devastating.

What’s Still Ahead: Weekly Checkups & Third Surgery

 

Anh is currently recovering at home, but his medical journey is far from over. He has weekly doctor’s appointments, labs, and scans to:

•Check for cancer recurrence

•Monitor his ostomy and internal healing

•Ensure there’s no leakage or infection

•Prepare for his next surgery in July

 

That upcoming surgery will be an ostomy reversal, which will reconnect his colon and restore normal digestive function. While this is an important step forward, it’s still a major procedure with a long recovery period and it adds to the already mounting medical expenses.

Why We’re Asking for Help

 

Anh hasn’t been able to work since May, and with another surgery and long recovery ahead, he likely won’t be able to return for the rest of the year. I’ve been doing my best to support us both, but the cost of hospital stays, treatments, medications, and everyday needs has started to feel overwhelming.

We know asking for help isn’t easy, and this fundraiser is about so much more than just money. It’s about supporting Anh, someone who has quietly cared for so many and giving him the freedom to focus entirely on healing.

Anh is one of the most hardworking people I’ve ever known. He’s worked six days a week for years, rarely taking time off for himself. He helps everyone around him, gives without hesitation, and never asks for anything in return. Even now, he didn’t want to ask for help. But the truth is, he needs rest. He needs peace. He needs space to recover not just physically, but emotionally.

Your donations help ease this burden, but your support also reminds Anh he’s not alone. That it’s okay to receive care and kindness just as much as he’s given it. That’s the heart of this fundraiser.
