Help Angie, Baby, and Family

My daughter, Angie is currently 23 weeks pregnant. This pregnancy came as a shock because she was on the IUD and just had a baby with medical needs in November. This pregnancy took an even bigger toll on her with her severe postpartum depression. At her 20 week scan, everything was great. We were worried about another possible cleft lip, but this little guy does not have one! A cyst was seen on the brain and not all organs were visible due to the baby’s position, but there were no concerns at that time. A follow up scan was recommended. Angie went in for her follow up scan 3 weeks later and things took a drastic turn. She barely had any amniotic fluid and there were some concerning things found on the ultrasound involving the kidneys, bowels, and intestines. They immediately thought her membranes were ruptured and admitted her to the OB Intensive Care Unit at Magee where she and the baby are being closely monitored. Noninvasive testing showed that no fluid was leaking but that ultimately led to more questions. She is being treated as though her water did break due to other symptoms. Invasive testing is being offered, but due to the lack of viability if she were to go in labor, Angie and Addison are holding off on the testing when the chance of survival is higher. The Maternal Fetal Team wants Angie to be admitted until she delivers the baby, which could be any time. Her current due date is February 4, 2022, which means she will be in the hospital for Zander’s surgery, first birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. The have to run more tests and wait for genetic testing to come back before they decide the next step, but they are preparing for Angie to go into labor at anytime.

The last 3 days have been a rollercoaster of emotions. With all of these unanswered questions, there are still many other things they have to worry about.

Zander, their 11 month old baby born with a severe bilateral cleft lip and palate has surgery in 3 weeks, which Angie will not be able to be there for. This surgery is going to be more challenging than the previous surgery and will require a longer healing time. Due to the hospital stay and the amount of care Zander requires before and after surgery, Angie and Addison are unable to work. Zander is allowed to visit Angie for a short amount of time when approved, but after surgery, they will not be able to see each other until Zander fully recovers. I live an hour away from Angie, Addison, and Zander and am not always able to help immediately. Your contribution will assist with lost wages, bills, and travel expenses.  Any amount will greatly help this family during these trying and uncertain times. I will keep you updated as we receive more information. Thank you in advance!
