Hi, we are Roos Demol and Anghard O'Shaughnessy, morher and daughter. l am now fundraising for the future of my daughter, Angharad who is 25.
We live in Co.Cork, Ireland, Angharad has been suffering from Systemic Auto-Inflammatory Disease for 13 years, something we managed with, but now she has been diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, an atrociously painful condition, which is rare, especially in people who have not had an injury or damaged nerve beforehand.
Angharad has been in the hospital for 2 weeks, and she came out in a wheelchair.
While this probably is not forever, it it has now been eight months without any improvement. And could take years.
I am a single mum, Angharad's father, who was divorced from me, passed away 3 years ago. We have only her disability allowance and my job seekers allowance as income. I was refused the full time carer's allowance, although I have to be around or ready to go at all times
We rent the house we live in and do get rental allowance, but still pay 300 Euro rent per month.
I am now driving her to college every day, this takes a big chunk out of our small budget.
My car is old, (2009) and cannot cope with all this mileage.
We live in Ballineen, co.Cork and the trip to Cork is around 45 km, so 100km return every day of the week.
We looked at wheelchair access on public buses, but they are not on every bus and need to be booked, and we do not have bus times that correspond well with college hours. My daughter is on opioids for the horrendous pain she suffers, and she cannot risk being passed by a bus or being stuck somewhere waiting for hours.
Our house is not accessible for wheel chair users, we are look8ng for an accessible house now.
There is no transport between Ballineen and Cork City for wheelchair users. So I have come to the sad conclusion that I have to ask for help. Angharad is studying in Morrisson's Island Campus, Cork to become an SNA, she is hoping to move on to university to study psychology after this. We already had to cut her year in half last year, because of the many times she was ill.
If I cannot drive her or find a good and safe way of transport, her year may have to be deferred again, or, she may have to give up.
College is what keeps her going and where she finds mental support of lecturers and friends.
She has discovered thr poet within her and is writing a poetry book, but even for that we will need money to get it published.
Your support will greatly help us to adapt to the new way of life and to make sure Angharad can secure a future of independence for herself.
The best outcome would be to get a second hand e car for transport and to be free of financial worry for the extra spending on household, doctors and even getting a private physio. The community physio therapists have waiting lists for years.
Your funds will help us greatly with transport issues and care for Angharad
