Angelina Levels Up

Donation protected
Hello beautiful people,

I'm Angelina Ponzio Labate   - a Street Dance student, educator, choreographer and documentarian - and a Teaching Certificate Candidate  at RENNIE HARRIS UNIVERSITY (press: Dance Teacher Magazine .) RHU  is "...committed to developing and sustaining the evolution of Hip Hop and Street Dance on our terms...The program goes beyond teaching dance steps, by fostering technically proficient teachers who are cultural ambassadors of the rich history and cultural lineage of the forms." - Founder Dr Rennie Harris

It is an immense honor to be 1 of 10 cohorts in the inaugural 2021 - 2022 year of RHU, training with this groundbreaking educational research center. Our tuition helps to fund RHU, pay faculty, and provide the highest quality of education (You can also support RHU directly at Paypal.me/rennieharris)  By sharing or donating you are not only supporting my/my students' education...you are also supporting the Arts, Street Dance and Hip Hop. Thank you so much for considering; please share widely so that this model of education becomes the norm in academia.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance towards my goal! I am working hard to raise $3,500.00 to complete my tuition costs, which is 1/3rd of my total costs. I have applied as a Level C1 Certificate Candidate - a minimum of 900 hours of study. My total costs (~$12,000.00) include: tuition of $4000.00 for 1.5 years of study; outside dance training to complete certification hours with specific approved instructors; transportation and accommodations for in-person trainings around the country, and yearly re-certifications. My tuition of $4000.00 for 3 semesters is reduced to $3500.00 after an employer made a generous offline donation of $500.00 - so I am trying to raise $3500.00

This program is an opportunity for me to level up as a dancer, educator and facilitator. I envision the work tying into my Graduate Studies, preparing me to start my own dance company, and helping me focus my teaching practice at the high school and college levels. My pedagogical approach is rooted in history, culture, technique, freedom, activism, anti racism, inclusivity, oral tradition, research, dialogue, exchange and self expression. I have/continue to study different Afro and Latin Diasporic dance traditions and I focus on Hip Hop Social Party Dances and House Dance. I will continue to develop my pedagogy and level up, throughout the RHU program.

LOOKING BACK...
I first saw RENNIE HARRIS PUREMOVEMENT perform when I was in high school, and something changed in me that night...I never, ever forgot that show. Some years later I had the incredible opportunity to study with Mr. Harris in the UCLA World Arts and Cultures/Dance Program, where I earned my B.A. in Dance with a Minor in Visual and Performing Arts Education. Working with Rennie and the other folks in the program - D. Sabela Grimes, MissFunk, Breeze-Lee and others - truly changed my life. After college I maintained a connection with Rennie by documenting at the Illadelph Legends of Hip Hop Festivals, and adding to the Rennie Harris American Street Dance Archives with exclusive interviews and footage. I've interviewed, learned from and danced with SO many incredible people around the world. I still have a lot to learn, a lot to share, and it continues to be a journey of discovery, stories, community and AMAZING MUSIC AND DANCE.

Thank you so much for considering

Peace, Love and Hip Hop!
