Hi, my name is Angelica and I own Angelica flowers and events, a flower shop, in the Chelsea neighborhood in NYC.
We have been in business since 2010, carefully and lovingly creating custom floral arrangements for our customers.
Our dedication and hard work has earned us the reputation of being one of New Yorks Best Florists. This is one of the proudest achievements in my life.
Like any small business, the last few years have been hard, We barley managed to get through COVID, the lockdowns, supply shortages and all the other struggles that came along with it, but just as we thought we were seeing the light at the end of the tunnel I was given a notice that my lease would not be renewed, we simply never saw this coming. We have been good tenants and cared for the building like it was our very own.
We had a beautiful location, that brought color, life and a sense of community to the west village. Sadly, our lease was not renewed and we were being forced to leave the place we considered home. I had a month to relocate and find a new location, Which is now in the Chelsea neighborhood.
I nearly lost the shop and my employees, the shop I had spent the last 13 years building. I took out a significant amount of loans in effort to keep angelica’s flowers and events operating,
I nearly drained my savings & 41 K getting through the pandemic and exhausted any and all financial support.
That was simply me surviving to keep my business going let alone having to hire movers to set up a new studio location and going through the expense of first/last rent, plus a security deposit for a five year lease.
I am coming to this same community and friends, hat in hand, asking for help.
I can’t survive this anymore financially to make ends meet. I’m afraid I’m going to loose my home and business, I have gone back and forth on how to make this work, and the sad reality is I’ve exhausted my options.
Please know how torn I have been about this. As a business owner, I don’t know how this will be received, but my hope is people will know how hard this is and that the last thing I wanted to do was come to you for help.
