Help Angela with her surgeries!
Angela Callais: you may know her as a therapist, activist, birth/postpartum doula, community member, mother, friend, or healer. She is, indeed, all of these things, and more, to so many people. What you may not know, is Angela survived a near-fatal car accident when she was 19 and spent 3 months in the hospital and over a year in intensive physical therapy re-learning how to use her body again--even how to walk. While her primary surgeon did an amazing job, building his career on the complexity of her case, not all of the repairs to her body were made to last. Those operations were over 20 years ago at this point, and it is imperative for Angela to complete part 2 of her recovery. Part 2 includes a total and complete hip replacement with complications from previous implants and surgeries in her right leg. This operation, along with precursory medical appointments and procedures, as well as time off work will cost Angela approximately $24,000 out of pocket--even with the best insurance a self-employed therapist can buy. Once scheduled for May 2020 and derailed by Covid, the surgery is more urgent than ever, as the necessity becomes more and more apparent in Angela’s daily activities.
We are writing to ask you to help Angela pay for her upcoming surgery scheduled for this fall. If you have ever wanted to give Angela something that would mean the world to her, this is the perfect opportunity. The successful surgery will, no doubt, change her life, and your donation--no matter how large or small--will help make that a reality. She has already raised $11,500 and is seeking $12,500 more with this appeal. If just 125 friends donate $100 each, we will be there within days! Our goal is $12,500 by Labor Day. Angela will update you on the steps and outcome of her journey throughout these next few months.
