My name is Sarrah Hackett, Angela and I have been coworkers for a few years now at Adventist Health in the Heart and Vascular Institute. She has always been the one who has a smile on her face and the person who you can tell loves what she does and cares for the patients. Even when this all started and she would be in pain each day, she showed up and was here for the patients and for her co workers. This all started in early March 2021 with her jaw being noticeably sore.
She went to the doctors and the dentist and each one said it was really nothing. Maybe TMJ. She kept pressing for answers and It wasn't until the middle of June that she has a CT scan done and it showed a mass that was already eating away at her jaw bone. Thankfully she immediately saw Oncology, was referred to UCSF, had a PET CT and biopsy done. She received the results that she has two types of rare cancers in her cheek and jaw. Once she received the results everything started moving so fast for her family and they had little time to process everything. She had already had a 14 hour surgery on her jaw where they also did a done graft from her leg. She now has a month of recovery ahead of her.
This is just the beginning of her fight though. All of her appointments are at UCSF in San Francisco so that means she has so many more extra expenses with all of this. Gas, hotel if needed, bridge toll, someone has to take off work to take her to these since she is in pain all the time. Her insurance has rejected a lot of equipment and medications that she needed after the surgery, so she has had to pay out of pocket for a lot of it. Once she has healed from this massive surgery, the next step is for chemotherapy and radiation. She also has to keep up with her normal day to day bills along side all of these extra expenses, plus what her insurance does no cover.
This lady is a fighter and I know she will end up on top of this but she needs our help financially right now. Anything will be helpful and if you know Angela, you know that she would drop everything to help anyone who would need it.
