My name is Angela, I am a 28 year old mom of two. In 2019 I tested positive for the BRCA 2 gene. This is a gene mutation that puts me at high risk for breast and ovarian cancer, amongst other things. Breast cancer runs strong in my family, my mother and aunt had it (and luckily won their battle against it) but throughout the years many of my doctors explained that eventually a double mastectomy and hysterectomy would be a choice I should make before the age of 32. The time has come, and I have made my choice to begin the process to have a double mastectomy followed by a DIEP flap reconstruction. This procedure will decrease my chances of getting breast cancer by 95-98%
This is a life changing major surgery that scares me, but I know it is essential for my health and to be here for my children. Any amount or even sharing my story is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
