My story has been filled with trauma, abuse, and personal growth. When I entered into this world I was born to a terrible man. He was involved in drugs, and took it out on everybody around him. As me and my mother escaped his abuse, she left me behind in pursuit of her own growth.

My mother was in and out of hospitals due to her addictions and bipolar disorder till I was a teen. It left me in and out of foster care, living with extended family that barely knew what to do with me, and even at one point homeless. At some point I was forced to live with my dad. With him, I was around drugs, and more guns and violence than any kid should be around. I was constantly berated, assaulted, and forced to be a cornered animal my entire teen and young adult life. This constant fear and lack of safety that constantly made me fear for my survival, and to this day I still struggle with my mental health and suicidal tendencies because of it all.

I’ve personally been harassed, assaulted, raped, and trafficked due to being trans, poor, and a woman of color and because of everything that's been going on politically, it has only gotten worse. I am no longer safe, and have access to no legal recourse or protections due to my marginalized status. Activists in my city that I consider allies are being targeted at an ever growing rate, and the recourse for trying to build community support has gotten more violent and inhumane with each passing day. I am seeing people being snatched up without due process, and I am terrified that because of my experience as both an activist and sex worker, I will fall victim to this dangerous system, and get v-coded by our prison system.

I’m tired of having to live every waking minute in fear. I’ve been thinking about this decision since the start of this year and every action of the administration has just affirmed that I will not be safe until I leave.
