Help Angel Go To Africa!

Hello! My name is Angel Anderson, and I am a recent graduate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. While attending this university, I got the opportunity to share space with influential scholars, thinkers, and artists such as Dr. C. Kemal Nance, Dr. Cynthia Oliver, Abby Zbikowski, Momar Ndiaye, and Danzel Thompson-Stout, all of whom have sparked my interest in uncovering all that the African Diaspora has to offer. Post-graduation, I decided to continue my studies and sought out opportunities to travel abroad in Africa in hopes of furthering my training, expanding my knowledge, and conducting movement research. I am excited to announce that I have been accepted into Ecole Des Sables’ Training Diaspora Africa program!

With your support, my intention to attend this program will be brought to fruition!

Ecole Des Sables is a dance school located in Toubab Dialaw, a fishing village south of Dakar, Senegal. This training takes place over the course of 3 intensive 10-week modules between 2022 and 2024, from May to July. While there, my studies will include but are not limited to the Germaine Acogny technique, black contemporary dances, Caribbean dances, theory of African dance techniques, and traditional dances from West, East, and South Africa. It is with certainty that I can state that exposure to these forms and novel modes of thought will positively impact my processes with creation, hybridization, and improvisation, lending itself useful to my artistic endeavors as a contemporary dance artist.

Your donation will be distributed towards my tuition, airfare, travel insurance, research equipment for documentation, and living expenses while in Senegal.
