Help Angel Gatrey Heal After Devastating Storm Injury

On 5/20/25, a powerful storm swept through Muscle Shoals, Alabama and surrounding areas leaving destruction in its path. One of the most heartbreaking tragedies hit our dear friend and sister, Angel Gatrey. As she was driving to get to safety, a massive tree collapsed onto her car.

Angel was inside.

During this shocking event she suffered a severe injury to her neck and spine. She was rushed to Vanderbilt hospital and into emergency surgery. She is currently paralyzed from the waist down at this time. Her life changed in an instant, and the journey ahead will be a long road to recovery.

But if you know Angel, you know, she has always been a light.

Angel is a proud mother of two. Nailah, her daughter, is 8 years old. Knowledge, her son, is 3. Angel is a gifted doula and a full time student. She had also just registered and was at the grass roots stage of becoming a non profit with her organization, The Queen’s Redemption. She is also the president of another nonprofit, Black Girls Advocate.

Angel is consistently serving. With her family, friends and community, she always shows up with a heart full of love and support.

As she begins her recovery, spiritually, we are praying daily for a miracle. During this time she will need extensive medical treatment and help to cover the financial burden. This includes but is not limited to:

*Rehabilitative hospitalization

*Transportation

*Physical therapy and long term nursing care

*Help with her children’s needs

*Financial support to cover living expenses and medical bills

Being a substitute teacher and a full time student does not afford you good healthcare benefits or financial stamina. We are working diligently to get her better health insurance and file for any other benefits she may qualify for. We want to ensure that she has the best chance at the highest quality of life; all the way up to the miracle of full healing and recovery. At this time she will need 24 hr. care for an extended time as we continue to work with her medical team for rehabilitation.

Angel’s sole focus is on healing and ensuring her children’s wellbeing.

Update : On 5/25 she was moved from the trauma unit down a step down icu. She also had a great visit with her children, sisters and uncle and his wife yesterday. She is strong in her Faith
