Help Angel Cakes Rebuild

$14,134 of $12,000 goal

Raised by 202 people in 4 months
Dearest community -

On Sunday February 24 a speeding car crashed into the Angel Cakes building on Fifth Street in Oakland, causing a gas leak and extensive damage to the building. Fortunately, though staff were working at the time, no one was physically injured. I’ve included some photos and a link to a news report below.

We are thankful that no one was hurt, although we are completely devastated and in shock.

We are working with the building owner, our insurance company, and our community on a plan to reopen our retail shop. Though insurance will cover much of our anticipated expenses, they won’t cover everything and we will need your support to reopen. We know that this will impact us for a long time.

Our retail store will be closed for the next several weeks as we repair the building. We will be resuming our custom order business from an alternate location beginning the week of March 4. All previously booked orders will be honored and we will take a limited number of new orders.

We can’t do this on our own, and we will need financial help. We know we need help covering our sizable insurance deductible and some other things insurance won't cover. We will update with more information as we learn more.

Any amount of support you give will go directly to helping us reopen our retail shop.  When the dust settles, we plan to hold a thank-you event for all donors to this campaign.

Other ways to help:

1. Please buy a cupcake coupon here: https://squareup.com/store/angelcakesSF/item/coupon-gift-card
Coupons will be mailed to you and will be redeemable at our retail shop when we reopen.

2. Sign up for our mailing list so you can get the announcement when our store re-opens: http://eepurl.com/gbGs5

3. Place an advance order for your birthday or event for later this year: http://www.angelcakes510.com/order

4. We have several builders and contractors in our community but we may need more help. If you have skills or are available to volunteer time or labor, please contact us.

5. Like and share this post on Facebook or other social media to help signal boost this message.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out so far, your calls, texts, and emails have meant everything. I know we will get through this together.

Jen Angel

We’re very excited to announce that we now have gas service, as of this morning!! This means we are making the final push to get everything ready and we will open for business on Saturday May 11! We will go back to our normal schedule of 10 am to 3 pm on weekends, and 11 am to 7 pm Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Thank you so much for all of your support during this crazy saga!!! We honestly wouldn’t have gotten through it without our financial support, your well wishes, and your helping hands with painting, and cleaning. We are so grateful to our community!

As a thank you to all donors and friends we will be having a cupcake happy hour and preview of the shiny new store on Friday evening from 5 pm to 7 pm. We’ll be giving out mini cupcakes (while supplies last) and we will serve some beverages. Come by and say hello!

In gratitude,
Jen Angel & the Angel Cakes Staff

PS Thanks go Steven at Berkeley Signs who replaced the logo on our front door this morning!!!

Well the saga continues! PG&E installed the gas line to the building last Wednesday (YAY!) and then did not install the gas meter on Friday as planned. So we're back to the waiting game for now, and we will announce an opening day (and opening party!) as soon as we can.

Well it's been more than a month since a car crashed into our beloved bakery on 5th Street! It's still difficult to believe that it happened!

The amount of community support throughout this ordeal has been amazing! We miss all of our amazing customers and friends, so we're going to have a little party on Sunday, April 21st from 7 to 9 PM. We will be providing mini cupcakes and some wine to go along with them. Don't miss the debut of a new limited edition cupcake flavor - "Car Crash" - which we've created to commemorate the whole debacle.

This event will take place at the Angel Cakes in Exile spot, an awesome commercial kitchen run by the lovely ladies of Natty Cakes and Plate Craft - and sharing with a few other small food businesses. Thanks to their generosity, we have been able to continue our custom orders while our shop is being rebuilt.

This event is free to donors, or $25. If you are a donor and didn't get a discount code, please email us!

RSVP here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/angel-cakes-in-exile-donor-thank-you-event-tickets-59680756750

Stop by and chat with staff and other supporters, sip some wine, sample some cupcakes! This is an casual cocktail hour and there will be no formal program.

We know this event will sell out, and we plan to host another event soon.

Have any questions? Need vegan or GF cupcakes? Please message us!
