Help Andy Scheuermann Pay Bills in his Final Cancer Battle

UPDATE 1/1/25: Andy's cancer had been in remission, but he is now Stage 4 as it has metastasized and his time is short. He knows he's had his last Christmas, and was moved by a celebration of his life thrown by his family in November. He's collecting SS but it's not enough to cover expenses, and he wants to hang on to his home, as there's equity and he wants to be able to pass it on to his family. Any amount will help Andy.

Our childhood neighbor, friend and classmate has had intensifying health challenges and been unable to work the past two years -- and could really use our help right now. Andy Scheuermann grew up around the corner from me and there are great memories of our neighborhood in Park Ridge, IL and school at MSW. Andy’s treatment for prostate cancer, diagnosed 2 years ago, was complicated by hospitalization for a bad diverticulitis flareup. His intestine had burst, requiring surgery, and delayed his cancer treatment while he spent 3 weeks in the hospital. While recovering he then injured his leg but suffered severe pain (and lots of sleepless nights) until they finally determined he had a fracture in his tibia, which required a cast. At the same time, he was dealing with sleep apnea they’d discovered while he was hospitalized, as well as hand surgery for Dupuytren’s syndrome which took many months to heal. The prostate cancer treatments, 5 days a week for nine weeks, and the hormonal therapy and medication had side effects including weight gain, depression and anxiety. Even the medications for that had their own side effects. Andy is going through this, and the very good news is the cancer is in remission. As all of us can certainly imagine, Andy is financially strapped. He could use an infusion of cash right away for necessities like groceries, bills and mortgage payments.
