Help Andy Recover from Life-Changing Injuries

My brother and I have started this fundraiser to help my sister Francesca and her husband Andy who was recently in a severe accident. #helpthehanns

 

On the night of Tuesday, October 12th, Andy was driving home from work when his truck crashed. The driver’s side door was ripped off as the truck rolled down an embankment and then flipped over and plunged off the highway overpass to the road below, expelling his lower body and pinning him beneath it. He had to be cut out of the vehicle and first responders did not expect Andy to survive. He was transported to the local hospital where he was put into a medically induced coma, put on a ventilator, and given multiple blood transfusions. After a 3-hour weather delay, Andy was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for life-saving surgery. Against all odds, Andy has survived, making it through four grueling days of surgery so far with many more to come in the days and weeks ahead. His life-changing injuries include multiple fractures to his pelvis, left femur broken in 2 places (one extending through the skin), both feet fractured in multiple places, and the doctors are trying to save his right foot that suffered a severe degloving injury. He also dislocated and tore the ligaments on both knees. Doctors told Andy they are putting him back together one piece at a time. He suffered a concussion, but miraculously his brain, organs and spine were spared significant injury.

 

Andy will be in the hospital for several weeks and then will need to spend time in a rehabilitation facility. We do not know when he will be able to return to work. My sister must take a leave of absence from her job to travel back and forth to Seattle to be with Andy once visitation is allowed all while trying to keep life as normal as possible for their children. They will need to make some modifications to their home, a modified vehicle, and possible prosthetics to accommodate Andy’s injuries.

 

Andy is a doting father to 3 young boys (11-years, and 4-year-old twins), and a devoted husband to Francesca. He is hard-working, generous, and kind. Before the accident Andy enjoyed taking his family camping and hiking and practiced weightlifting and Jiu Jitsu. He also enjoyed DIY projects and renovating the family home.
