Andy’s world was turned upside down in March. Whilst on holiday Andy experienced stomach pains and after a scan he was given the mind shattering news that he had stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He was informed that the cancer had spread to other organs, and he now had a life expectancy of between 3 and 5 months.
Then the COVID pandemic hit the world, disrupting travel and health treatments globally. Andy was in Asia at this time and unfit to fly home but he needed to start his treatment quickly. He stayed there and started a course of chemotherapy (Folfirinox). He has since completed 12 rounds of chemotherapy.
The latest scans showed that Andy has responded well to all the treatments and his cancer has shrunk by more than 50%. His oncologist reported it as a ‘minor miracle’, but it is now just a matter of time before this treatment becomes ineffective. Andy has the rare BRCA genetic mutation. The best treatment for people who have cancer and this genetic mutation is a targeted drug call Lynparza. Lynparza can more than double a person’s life expectancy and in some cases it has even led to complete responses.
Lynparza is standard care in the USA & Europe for pancreatic cancer, and it is available from the NHS for advanced ovarian cancer, but not for pancreatic cancer. Despite oncologists agreeing that this is his best (and only) course of treatment now, he has been informed that Lynparza will not be available to him on the NHS.
To continue his fight Andy must pay for the treatment privately. The cost of this drug alone, here in the UK, is around £84,000 for a year's supply. We are trying to raise the funds to cover the cost of this treatment along with helping maintain the other treatments that are keeping him alive and he is responding so well to, these include infusions, supplements and integrated doctors. Andy's goal is to extend his life to be with his son's and when the breakthrough comes he will be alive to receive it. Without this medication his doctor's guess his life expectancy in terms of months, with Lynparza they estimate up to 4 yrs.
We are hoping to raise the funds to have the right medication ready for Andy when he can fly home, which could be any time now. Andy wants to fight this most aggressive cancer but the clock is ticking.
Andy is still 'stuck' in Asia having cycles of chemo every 2 weeks. The chemo is extremely toxic and some of his side effects have included losing the use of right foot, (he had to learn to walk again), extreme fatigue and after the last treatment his weight dropped to 62 kg, cachexia had set in. The chemo is taking its toll and Andy is fighting this alone a long way from his friends and family. He has had to take a break from the chemo in order to build up his strength, but pancreatic cancer is so aggressive and has such a short life expectancy it's not good for him to take breaks.
For Andy to continue his fight, it's imperative to get him on the new drug (Lynparza) and back home. The last 9 months have been extremely difficult for Andy, with his fight to stay alive and being so far from his family and friends. He has truly put up an incredible battle and defied the odds using many alternative treatments along with chemotherapy. Please help us to raise this money that will get Andy home now and get him on the treatments he so desperately needs. Andy believes he can beat this and have a chance of more life with his sons.
THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ ABOUT ANDY'S PLIGHT AND FOR CONSIDERING THIS REQUEST. WORDS CANNOT EXPRESS THE GRATITUDE AND LOVE THAT ARE GIVEN BY ANDY'S SON'S AND FAMILY FOR ALL WHO ARE KIND ENOUGH TO HELP.
For the past 3 years Andy had been a full-time carer for both his mum and dad. They both passed away, within months of each other in September and November last year, during that time he exhausted his savings. He is also active in raising money and awareness for the Wildflower Home (a women and children’s refuge who work with youths against drugs). Andy has been there for many people, always willing to help in anyway he can. It’s my hope we can help him get back home to his boys and family, and give him a chance of beating this cancer.

Thank you so much in advance for considering to help Andy. Should the money be raised and in the sad event of Andy not making it, all money collected will be given directly to another cancer sufferer here on gofund me.
Please help us to raise the £100,000 to cover one years cost of the treatments he desperately needs.
