Help Andy get rehab care after brutal attack

Hi, my name is Carlos and I am fundraising for my best friend Andy who was brutally attacked while we were visiting Boston. We are from Brazil and were traveling on student visas. Andy was invited to a person's house who he had just met. The man gave him a spiked drink and Andy felt that he was being drugged. He is someone who never drinks alcohol or takes drugs. Andy is a gentle and trusting man who has never hurt anyone. He called me in a panic, telling me that he felt dizzy and was afraid that he'd been drugged. He was afraid the man was trying to kill him. I got in a car and drove to the location as soon as I could, talking to Andy on the phone the whole time. Before I got there, I heard a yell and the phone went dead. I was scared for his life.

We are trying to understand what happened. Andy is in the hospital with broken bones and a severe brain injury. He was unconscious for two weeks and on a ventilator for four weeks. He is now awake, but it still being fed through a tube. He can barely speak at all. We still don't know the amount of brain damage he suffered and whether it will be permanent. Before the attack, Andy was a bright, intelligent man who loved animals and wanted to be a veterinarian.

The acute care hospital wants to discharge him to a rehab center. They say that because of his youth and good health, he has the best chance of recovery, but he must get the care he needs immediately. His insurance will not cover rehab and he and his family cannot afford to pay for it. I have given him what small amount of money I have but it is not nearly enough.

I am asking you from the bottom of my heart to help my dear friend. Please help him as generously as you can. He will be eternally grateful and you will have helped save the life of a person who will go on to care for others and give back to the world many times over.

Estamos tentando entender o que aconteceu, enquanto o caso segue sob investigacao policial. Anderson está no hospital com ossos quebrados e uma lesão cerebral grave. Ele ficou em coma por duas semanas e com ajuda de respirador por quatro semanas. Ele agora está acordado, mas ainda sendo alimentado por um tubo. Ele mal consegue falar. Ainda não sabemos a quantidade de dano cerebral que ele sofreu e se será permanente. Antes do ataque, Anderson era um rapaz alegre e inteligente que ama os animais e estudava para ser veterinário.

O hospital de cuidados intensivos quer dar alta e trasferi-lo para um centro de reabilitação. Dizem que por ser jovem e ter boa saúde, ele tem mais chances de recuperação, mas deve receber os cuidados de que precisa imediatamente. O seguro dele não cobrirá a reabilitação e ele e sua família não podem pagar por isso. Eu dei a ele a pequena quantia de dinheiro que tenho, mas não é o suficiente.
