After thirteen years at my job, I had to step away last year because of a back and hip injury. I had over 300 hours of PTO I was never able to use, and I thought a few months off would be enough to recover, lose weight, and work with my doctor to get better. But healing took much longer than I expected. I’ve now been looking for work for nearly six months. In that time, I’ve sold what I could and used up my savings just to get by. My friends have helped me as much as they can, but those resources have run out.

I’m grateful to be able to return to my old company, this time helping with delivery driving after working in management before. The biggest challenge is that all my cards are cut off, and I have a two to three week window where I have nothing left. I can’t even buy food at the moment. SNAP has helped, but it only goes so far. I never thought I’d be in this position or need to ask for help, but I’m doing everything I can to avoid going on disability—I want to work and get back on my feet.
