Help Andy Bradley Triumph After Double Amputations

Donation protected
We are asking you to help our nephew, Andy Bradley, regain mobility and health after suffering the ravishing effects of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease. Both of Andy's feet and portions of his lower legs have been amputated.  The most recent left lower leg amputation occurred just before Christmas 2019 after weeks of hospitalization. Andy has months of recovery ahead of him.

Andy’s hope is to become independent and have a job again someday. He wants to actively participate and enjoy his daughters’ childhood. Andy wants to be able to take his daughter places and experience new adventures with her. They are a team together. Andy is an amazing Dad. He is a  loving and caring person who has always shown compassion for others.

Now he needs our help. He needs  our prayers and financial help to pay huge hospital bills, insurance premiums, and medication co-pays. He also needs financial help to make his home safe and wheelchair accessible. It is a small house which may require additional space to achieve this goal. We also hope to raise enough money to provide Andy with a vehicle that is wheelchair accessible and has driving hand controls.

Andy’s medical Bio:

Andy is a 46 year old guy who until two years ago was living a typical life. He had a full time job, financial security, his own home and two daughters. An eighteen year old stepdaughter and a ten year old daughter of whom he has 50% residential custody. Andy has coped with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease and its’ ravishing effects, since he was diagnosed at age 16. With the help of medication, he has managed to live an independent, quality life.

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is an autoimmune disease. This inflammatory disease causes the immune system to attack its’ own tissue.  It can attack and weaken organs and systems within the body. There is no cure for this disease. The primary treatment for Lupus is high doses of steroids such as prednisone; medications that suppress the immune system and numerous additional medications to support the body.

In September 2017, while doing yard clean up after Hurricane Irma, Andy contracted vibrio vulnificus which is a flesh eating bacteria. It entered his body and infected his lower leg. Due to his suppressed immune system Andy’s body could not effectively fight this bacteria.  After near death, excruciating pain and treatments and herculean efforts by his medical team, his right leg below the knee had to be amputated in October 2017 to stop the infection.

This was devastating for Andy. He had coped with much physical pain during his life. However, he was always able to return to his job and maintain independence. It took well over a year for Andy to regain strength and be able to be fitted for a prosthetic leg. Because of lupus, he heals very slowly and easily develops issues that prevent wearing of the prosthetic leg.

If this wasn’t enough, this past December 2019, Andy’s left foot and ankle were amputated due to vascular issues which deprived his foot and ankle of oxygen. When deprived of oxygen tissue dies. Again, after weeks of hospitalization, the amputation was necessary to stop the destruction of tissue and to keep the rest of his leg healthy and infection free.

Andy Bradley is the most loving, caring person I know. He has always helped others in need. It was a very difficult decision for him to allow his maternal aunts to set up this Go Fund Me account. This is a very proud man in an unexpected situation. He deserves and needs your help. Thank you.
