Hello!
My name is Andrew Heggie. My dream is to pursue a Master of Philosophy and study the great German philosophers in their original language in Germany. While I am currently pursuing entry into such programs, a primary qualifier for admission is demonstrating German college-level language proficiency. Hence the reason I am seeking your support. The language program I want to pursue involves total immersion in language programs in Germany beginning mid-January and culminates in the required German language certification exam (DaF) the third week in April.
More about my undergraduate experience
I pursued my undergraduate studies at the University of Louisville where I studied German Philosophy and Sociology.
My undergraduate experience included the following:
• As a freshman, I was invited by a professor to take a graduate-level course on German Sociology;
• In 2024 I presented my first research paper to the Kentucky Philosophical Association Annual Meeting in Bowling Green Kentucky;
• In 2025 I presented my second ever research paper to the Purdue University Systems and Disruptions Conference;
• At the end of my studies, I successfully completed an over 40 page long senior honors thesis on the German thinkers Hannah Arendt and Jürgen Habermas.
My educational background consists not only of the courses and research I did in the U.S. but also included six weeks of Philosophy and German Language studies at the Leuphana Universität in Lüneburg, Germany.
I completed my undergraduate career with three significant accomplishments: I graduated from the University of Louisville Summa cum Laude (3.9CGPA), I graduated with a newly gained fluency in the German Language, and I largely self-funded it all by working full time in a local coffee shop since I was eighteen years old.
I appreciate your support!
All the best,
Andrew
