In October 2024, my brother Andrew’s life changed forever. While riding his bike, he was struck by a vehicle and suffered devastating injuries. Since then, Andrew has been fully dependent on others for all aspects of his care.

He doesn't have medical insurance, so our family has been covering the cost of every piece of medical equipment he needs — from mobility aids to basic care supplies. One piece of equipment that would make a life-changing difference for Andrew is a standing machine.

A standing machine supports individuals who are unable to stand on their own by helping them safely bear weight through their legs. This isn’t just about posture — standing regularly has major medical benefits, including:

Improving bone density and reducing the risk of fractures

Increasing circulation and cardiovascular health

Supporting digestive and respiratory function

Helping prevent pressure sores

Maintaining muscle strength and reducing spasticity

Boosting mental health and emotional well-being

The total cost for the standing machine, including all the necessary accessories to make it usable and safe for Andrew, comes to about $5,000. Unfortunately, this is far beyond what we can afford right now, especially as ongoing care costs continue to add up.
