Help Andrew Pereira Overcome Financial Strain

Meet Andrew Pereira, a 65-year-old security guard who has dedicated his life to his work and family. For 41 years, he worked tirelessly at Brown University, and even after retiring, he hasn’t been able to slow down. To make ends meet, Andrew has been working grueling 70-hour weeks, despite the toll it takes on his body and spirit.
His wife, who relies on Social Security disability payments, faces another challenge. Because they filed their taxes jointly, Andrew's income is considered, and it’s resulted in a significant tax burden that neither of them can afford. Despite the fact that her disability payments aren’t typically taxable, the IRS has imposed a hefty $8,000 bill due at the end of the year. This unexpected debt is threatening their ability to cover basic living expenses—mortgage, utilities, food, medicine, insurance, and more.
What makes this situation even more heartbreaking is Andrew’s unwavering dedication to his work. He often finishes his shifts after midnight after working 18-hour days, only to start again at 6 am the next morning. His commitment to his job and family never wavers, even in the face of exhaustion. And through it all, Andrew remains a bright light—always smiling, always kind, always ready to lend a hand to others. He is the kind of person who makes everyone around him feel better, and he is truly one of the most genuine people you could ever meet.
I am a student at Brown University who has had the privilege of becoming friends with Andrew over the past few years. He has become a mentor, a role model, and one of my closest friends. It breaks my heart to see him in this position when all he has ever done is work hard to provide for his family and bring joy to those around him.
Andrew is facing an overwhelming challenge, and I am reaching out to all of you for help. If you are able, please consider donating to help Andrew and his family get back on their feet. Every little bit counts and would mean the world to someone who has given so much of himself to others. If you can’t donate, please consider sharing this campaign with your network.
Let’s show Andrew the same kindness, support, and generosity that he has shown to so many others. Thank you for your time, your support, and your compassion.
