Andrew Liebel was diagnosed with ALS in 2017, at age 27. ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) is a terminal illness with a prognosis of 2-5 yrs. During that time the person with ALS progressively loses the ability to move, eat, speak, and eventually breathe. Though their mental abilities remain intact.
Andrew has worked for Emergency Reporting for six years. Including the last four years of continuing to work despite his diagnosis. Andrew’s desire to continue to support his family of 5 and his strong will to continue living fiercely prompted him to do whatever it took to continue working (he used foot pedals and eye tracking devices when he became unable to move his arms and hands).
Andrew has decided that it’s now time to retire and to spend the rest of his time with his three children—Avyana (11), August (9) and Arya (3). The transition to long term disability is a long one with months of waiting. Additionally, Andrew and family will be moving from Arizona back to Washington to be closer to their friends and family.
This GoFundMe will go toward the costs associated with Andrew’s retirement due to his illness. Andrew has lost his ability to walk, eat, and speak, so his caregiving needs are high. Caregiving is very expensive and not covered by insurance. Erin, Andrew’s spouse, has been Andrew’s sole caregiver since his diagnosis. She has one year left of law school so she is currently unemployed. Anything you can spare will be helpful.
