Andrew and Jenaveve, my son and his girlfriend, are facing an incredibly difficult time. Their newborn arrived prematurely at 37 weeks and immediately faced serious medical complications. He ingested 16 units of feces into his underdeveloped lungs, is struggling to breathe on his own, and is at high risk for sepsis. The hospital where he was born is not equipped to handle his condition, so he is being transferred to Sacred Heart for specialized care in the NICU. This has been a terrifying and emotional experience for the whole family, especially with three small children at home who need their parents’ love and attention.

Andrew is the sole provider for their household, and the repeated hospital visits leading up to the early delivery have already caused him to miss work. Now, with the baby’s transfer to a different hospital, Andrew will need to travel and be by his newborn’s side, while also supporting Jenaveve and caring for their other children. The financial strain of travel expenses and loss income is adding to their stress during an already overwhelming time.
