My name is Wakeia, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart. My boyfriend Andrew is only 22 years old. He was recently in a terrible accident that left him in critical condition. He’s had three major surgeries after breaking his femur, wrist, and jaw, and he’s lost seven teeth. He’s currently in the ICU, unable to speak, and facing a long recovery.

The accident happened after someone began chasing Andrew, and in an attempt to escape, he jumped over a wall — falling over 20 feet onto concrete according to the doctor. We were terrified. He went missing for two full days. We searched everywhere, only to find out he had been taken to the hospital in critical condition.

This was supposed to be the year things turned around for us. After surviving youth homelessness, we finally got our own place in January 2024. Andrew was about to return to High School to get his GED and start working. I just returned to work last week — but now I’m carrying everything on my own, including rent and bills, while also trying to be by his side.

We are doing everything we can to stay strong, but we are falling behind financially. Our rent is high here in LA, and we’re at risk of losing everything we’ve worked so hard to build. I also need help getting a car so I can get to work and eventually pick Andrew up when he’s ready to leave the hospital.
