Help Andrew Dana Attend Afro Tech Conference

Intro:

Hey, nice to meet you, I'm Andrew Kwadwo Dana. To put it simply, I am a sophomore Computer Science student at Georgia State University, and I want to attend the Afro Tech conference this year in Houston, TX.

A little background on who I am:

I am a young, African, Christian. I am the first of two kids from my mom. It was always me, my mother (my amazing mother!), and my little brother. I never felt like I was missing anything though because she worked so hard to make it that way, but I always knew that when I grew up, I would want to take care of my family and make sure my mom doesn't have to work as hard as she does forever. My passion for tech started with superhero shows and movies—I always loved the "guy behind the chair" role. More specifically, technology is the future, and I plan to one day aid in the future of Africa; I envision a modern-day Wakanda. I could go on about this topic forever, but I say this to emphasize that an internship would provide a great deal of experience, and even connecting with like-minded individuals, who may one day, very well, help contribute to my vision.

Why do I want to go:

If you know anything about the tech industry, it's that the barriers to entry are high but not impossible to overcome. I believe that attending this conference could be my chance at landing an internship this summer. In preparation, I have been updating my resume and social platforms, as well as preparing for interviews, as I understand that some companies offer interviews during the event. Any—and I mean ANY—amount is truly appreciated, and I will not let you down.

More about the event/budget:

The event will be held from November 13-16 in Houston, TX, in the downtown Houston area. Tickets are $450 for general admission. I plan to book an Airbnb (cheapest option), costing about $187 in total for the three days. For the flight, it is about $107 for now, again, the cheapest option. Finally, I will need transportation to and from the conference center. Since I do not know anyone in Houston, I plan to budget $100 for transportation (Lyft and Uber). Thank you so much!
