Update: My friend Andrew passed away yesterday. He had prostate cancer, I am not sure of the cause of death. Funds raised will help his widow.
History:
Andrew is a friend I met while visiting Kogaja, Tanzania to work with the Africompassion School for Hope. I am pictured with his son David and a friend, Janine See, is pictured with Andrew when he was healthy last summer.
He is a hardworking farmer and the main provider for his family, living in an impoverished village in Migori, Kenya. Despite the daily challenges of rural life, Andrew has always done his best to support his loved ones and his community.
Even though Andrew is poor, he has been volunteering at the Africompassion School for Hope, a school for impoverished children. He and his son David have faithfully volunteered at the school—cleaning the compound, assisting with cooking, and helping however he could. He has done this consistently, without expecting anything in return.
Recently, Andrew became very ill and was diagnosed with early prostate cancer. His family has made great sacrifices, selling all their cattle and food so he could receive medical care. As part of the diagnosis process, he was directed to a regional hospital in Eldoret, Kenya—a journey of seven hours. Now, after exhausting all their resources, Andrew’s family has no money left to pay for his ongoing care, travel, or even basic living expenses. Selling the family cattle also means they will have no way to plow their land to grow food.
The doctors have given hope: Andrew’s cancer is in an early stage and can be treated, but only if funds are available. Without help, the hospital will stop his treatment and send him home, where he would face the disease without medical support. This would not only put Andrew’s life at risk but also leave his family without their breadwinner.
I am reaching out to ask for your support—any contribution, no matter the size, will make a life-saving difference for Andrew and his family.
