If you all know Andrew like we know Andrew, he never ask for help, but he's definitely in need of help now. Both Andrew and Ashley are currently not working at this time.
Help Andrew and Ashley after a devastating start to 2022. From early baby to a 3 week NICU stay, to emergency week long hospital stay, to now working on a kidney transplant which will likely take months while living on dialysis.
Normal life for Andrew, Ashley, and the boys was fantastic. Plenty to celebrate together and plenty to celebrate with others. Covid adjustments had been working and overall 2021 was a great year for the family. Then December came.
In December instead of celebrating with family and friends, life changed. The doctors forced hospital bed rest for pregnant Ashley. The flu and covid hospital rules forced some tough guidelines to follow and made the holidays a little more private in the hospital without the help of family and the kids to celebrate with. Video calls became the only connection to the world as they awaited Braxton's delivery. But it was Lutheran General in Park Ridge, so it was in good hands. Unfortunately with all the stress, no one knew the toll it was taking on Andrew's body and health. Since his first transplant he had remained mostly healthy until the last few years. Andrew had quietly battled a few viruses and illnesses but something worse had finally gotten him in December of 2021. Everything combined ended the function of his transplanted kidney ahead of expectation and without much notice. By the time Braxton would be born prematurely, Andrew would have no kidney function left. Braxton was delivered via c section on January 3, 2022 and immediately start his stay in the NICU. Ashley would be released from the hospital within days and they would begin their daily drives from Algonquin to Park Ridge to visit while the other kids were in school. Andrews health couldn't be ignored any longer and was admitted to Good Shephard in Barrington for a week in January. He would undergo surgery and begin dialysis almost immediately. Ashley and the rest of the family were stuck with no personal visits, very few answers, and being alone in visiting the baby in Park Ridge.
At the end of January, both Andrew and Braxton were finally released from their respective hospitals. Braxton with a close watch and Andrew with very explicit and necessary instructions for 4 hour a day, 3 times a week dialysis treatments. Leaving him very weak and unable to work consistent hours at all. All at the same time he was to continue his volunteer coaching for Hudson. Assisting to a local travel basketball team where he has spent many hours over the years helping coach and guide young athletes. And even more special, planning to support and watch Joe who had been hired on staff at his Alma mater for basketball. Little did the family know, Andrew would only make a handful of various prep games to support. Those restrictions are the new way of life... seeing what strength Andrew has each day and if he can partake in the normal way of life.
Andrew is pre-registered with Northwestern Transplant now. Over the next 6 weeks he will do all the intake tests necessary to get the ball rolling for his next transplant. At that time any potential living donors will have the opportunity to get tested for him and the process will begin. His local doctors here are estimating sometime in the fall if all goes well and fast with a living donor he knows. Andrew continues to try to help as much at home and in the office as possible but so far its not working out too well. With all the changes to medications, the dialysis, and the addition of of doctors appointments it hasn't been easy.
Andrew's medical bills are already exceeding over $12K, and insurance is still sorting through everything from Braxton's extended stay. Any help would be extremely greatful and appreciated.
