Help Andres to pay his University Loan

My name is Andres Lagos and thank you for checking up on my fundraiser.

 

This is a bit of my story… At a young age, I was driven by my parents to become a remarkable professional and I have been placing all my effort to become how I consider myself today, an exceptional professional with a set of values and ethics that help me to distinguish myself from others.

 

Coming from a middle-class family, my parents were able to financially support me during my bachelors in Industrial Engineering. In 2016, I received my title as Industrial Engineer (Honours) with a High Distinction average, however, with the lack of employment opportunities and quality of life I felt that in my life I was missing something to make me happy and complete. Thus, I decide to start a new chapter in my life and with an initial aim to improve my English I packed my bags and left my home country Colombia for Sydney, Australia.

 

 

 

My journey in Australia has not been easy but I am grateful for all the new adventures, professional and personal growth that I have been achieving over these years. I am certainly grateful for the people that I have been meeting during these years, that has become my family and have given me the energy/capacity to continue my journey and achieve my dreams.

 

As time passed, I decided to establish my life in Australia. In 2017, I decided to start a Master degree in Information Technology at the University of Technology, Sydney UTS. International students education fees are higher than average, so I was required to financially support my studies with a Colombian loan, at that time I was thinking that I was able to support my life and pay my loan.

 

With the onset of the Covid-19 Pandemic in 2020 just as I was finalising my studies, it became difficult for me to find a professional job eliminating my ability to save and pay my education loan.

On average a Master Degree in Information Technology in Australia for International students are between 28,000 – 21,000 AUD per semester, thus the complete tuition fee for a Master Degree in Australia vary between 112,000 – 88,000 AUD. These costs make studying for international students in Australia very expensive.

 

In 2019, I was able to culminate my Master degree with a High Distinction average but in the middle of the Covid-19 Pandemic was really hard for me to find a professional job. Working in retail and hospitality back in the date plus tough lockdown my main source of income was drastically reduced, preventing me from saving money and being able to start repaying my University loan. In addition, in 2019 I received the final amount that I was required to pay plus interest the amount almost increase by 16.9%.

 

 

I am grateful that I culminate my Master Degree with a High Distinction average, however, I am concerned about the amount of money that I need to pay. To date, I am struggling to pay my educational loan and with the idea of working hard and not being able to achieve my dreams, it is frustrating.

 

Now that I finalised my studies, I just need a push to help me pay my university loan. I have been always giving 100% of myself in my studies, life and work but in this opportunity, I am using this platform to share my case and be able to find a solution to reduce the stress.

 

Any donation will help me to reduce the financial burden of these education loans and interest and I will be eternally grateful.

Me llamo Andrés Lagos y gracias por revisar mi fundación.  

Esta es mi historia... A una edad temprana, mis padres me impulsaron a convertirme en un profesional remarcable y he puesto todo mi esfuerzo para convertirme en lo que me considero hoy, un profesional excepcional con un conjunto de valores y principios éticos que me han ayudado a distinguirme de los demás. 

Proveniente de una familia de clase media, mis padres me apoyaron económicamente durante mis estudios en Ingeniería Industrial. En 2016 obtuve mi título de Ingeniero Industrial (Mención Honorífica) con promedio de Distinción Alta, sin embargo, con la falta de oportunidades laborales y calidad de vida sentía que en mi vida me faltaba algo que me hiciera feliz y completo. Por lo tanto, decidí comenzar un nuevo capítulo en mi vida y con el objetivo inicial de mejorar mi inglés, hice las maletas y me fui de mi país de origen, Colombia, a Sídney, Australia. 

 
 

Mi vida en Australia no ha sido fácil pero estoy agradecido por todas las nuevas aventuras, crecimiento profesional y personal que he venido logrando a lo largo de estos años. Sin duda estoy agradecido por todas las  personas que he ido conociendo durante estos años, que se han convertido en mi familia y me han dado la energía y capacidad para continuar mi camino y alcanzar mis sueños. 

Con el paso del tiempo, decidí establecer mi vida en Australia. En 2017, decidí comenzar una Maestría en Tecnología de la Información en la Universidad de Tecnología de Sídney UTS. Las tarifas en educación de los estudiantes internacionales en Australia son más altas que el promedio, por lo que me  respalde financieramente mis estudios por medio de un préstamo colombiano; en ese momento estaba pensando que podría sostener mi vida y pagar mi préstamo al mismo tiempo. Con el inicio de la pandemia de Covid-19 en 2020, justo cuando estaba finalizando mis estudios, se me hizo difícil encontrar un trabajo profesional, lo que me impidió ahorrar y pagar mi préstamo educativo. En promedio, una Maestría en Tecnología de la Información en Australia para estudiantes internacionales cuesta entre 28 000 y 21 000 AUD por semestre, por lo que la matrícula completa para una Maestría en Australia varía entre 112 000 y 88 000 dólares Australianos. Estos costos hacen que estudiar para estudiantes internacionales en Australia sea muy costoso. 

En 2019 pude culminar mi Maestría con un promedio de Distinción Alta pero en medio de la Pandemia del Covid-19 fue muy difícil para mí encontrar un trabajo profesional. Trabajando en una tienda de ropas y restaurantes y con cuarentenas muy estrictas, mi principal fuente de ingresos se redujo drásticamente, lo que me impidió ahorrar dinero y poder empezar a pagar mi préstamo universitario. Además, en 2019 recibí el monto final que debía pagar más los intereses, el monto casi aumento en un 16.9 %.

 

Estoy agradecido de culminar mi Maestría con un promedio de Distinción Alto, sin embargo, me preocupa la suma de dinero que debo pagar. A la fecha, estoy luchando para pagar mi préstamo educativo y con la idea de trabajar duro y no poder alcanzar mis sueños, es frustrante. Ahora que terminé mis estudios, solo necesito un empujón que me ayude a pagar mi préstamo universitario. 

Siempre doy el 100% de mi en mis estudios, vida y trabajo pero en esta oportunidad estoy usando esta plataforma para compartir mi caso y poder encontrar una solución para reducir un poco el estrés del pago de mi universidad. Cualquier donación me ayudará a reducir la carga financiera de del préstamo educativos e intereses y de esta manera estaré eternamente agradecido.
