Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted individuals,

Today, I reach out to you with renewed hope, but also with a growing urgency, to recover something as precious as my sight, not only for myself but also for my young 4-year-old daughter. My name is Andreina Sánchez, and my life changed drastically in 2006 when I was the victim of a serious traffic accident while traveling on an express bus to Maracaibo.

In an instant, our bus violently collided with a truck carrying chemicals from the Protinal company. The force of the impact released the toxic cargo, immediately burning my eyes.

Seeking urgent care, I began a long process to try and restore my vision.

Initially, I underwent a conjunctival graft in my left eye. Six months later, I received the same graft in my right eye. Then, six months after that, they were able to perform a corneal transplant on my left eye, thanks to which I recovered 80% of my vision. This vision in my left eye has been my main support ever since.

However, over time, the cornea in my left eye has progressively deteriorated. The vision that allowed me to manage my life and care for my daughter is almost completely lost. This situation has increased my anguish and the urgent need to find a solution.

Unfortunately, the corneal transplant on my right eye performed in Venezuela failed.

Subsequently, I had a keratoprosthesis implanted, an aggressive surgery that irreversibly damaged the optic nerve in that eye.

Throughout these years, I have undergone seven surgeries. My eyes are extremely delicate and require the attention of specialists experienced in complex cases like mine, specialists who can understand the consequences of the chemical accident, the history of the various procedures, and the current deterioration of my left eye's vision.

Currently, I have a beautiful 4-year-old daughter who needs all my attention. The progressive loss of vision in my only functional eye makes it increasingly difficult to care for her, enjoy her games, and accompany her as she grows. My greatest wish is to be able to see her smiling face and guide her through every step of her life.

My greatest hope is to find options that will allow me to receive urgent treatment to stop the deterioration of my left eye's vision and recover as much of my sight as possible.

Each surgical intervention has required exhaustive immunological preparation and the use of expensive medications. In addition to the cost of the surgery itself, I need to cover the expenses of at least two months of stay for my recovery.

It is for this reason that today I turn to your generosity with an even greater need. Any contribution, no matter how small, brings me closer to the possibility of receiving the urgent treatment I need to recover as much of my vision as possible and to be able to watch my daughter grow and provide her with the care she deserves.

Attached to this letter are my medical report from Venezuela and the previous report from the doctor who treated me before the prosthesis placement, so that you can better understand my situation.

I will be eternally grateful for your support and any help you can provide. Together, we can make this new chapter in my life and my little girl's life possible. Time is crucial.

Mi nombre es Andreína Sánchez y mi vida cambió drásticamente en el año 2006, cuando fui víctima de un grave accidente de tránsito mientras viajaba en un bus expreso hacia Maracaibo. En un instante, nuestro autobús impactó violentamente contra un camión cargado de químicos de la empresa Protinal. La fuerza del choque liberó la carga tóxica, quemando mis ojos de inmediato. Buscando atención urgente, comencé un largo proceso para intentar restaurar mi visión. En un primer momento, me realizaron un implante de conjuntiva en mi ojo izquierdo. Seis meses después, recibí el mismo implante en mi ojo derecho. Luego, seis meses más tarde, lograron realizarme un trasplante de córnea en mi ojo izquierdo, gracias al cual recuperé un 80% de la visión. Esta visión de mi ojo izquierdo ha sido mi principal apoyo desde entonces. Sin embargo, con el tiempo, la córnea de mi ojo izquierdo se ha deteriorado progresivamente. La visión que me permitía desenvolverme y cuidar de mi hija se está perdiendo casi por completo. Esta situación ha aumentado mi angustia y la necesidad de encontrar una solución de manera urgente. Desafortunadamente, el trasplante de córnea en mi ojo derecho realizado en Venezuela fracasó. Posteriormente, me colocaron una queratoprótesis, una cirugía agresiva que dañó irreversiblemente el nervio óptico de ese ojo. A lo largo de estos años, he pasado por siete cirugías. Mis ojos son extremadamente delicados y requieren la atención de especialistas con experiencia en casos complejos como el mío, especialistas que puedan comprender las secuelas del accidente químico, la historia de los diversos procedimientos y el actual deterioro de mi visión izquierda. Actualmente, tengo una hermosa niña de 4 años que necesita toda mi atención. La progresiva pérdida de visión en mi único ojo funcional hace cada vez más difícil atenderla, disfrutar de sus juegos y acompañarla en su crecimiento. Mi mayor anhelo es poder ver su carita sonriente y guiarla en cada paso de su vida. Mi mayor esperanza es poder encontrar opciones que me permitan recibir un tratamiento urgente para detener el deterioro de mi visión izquierda y recuperar lo mejor posible mi visión.

Cada intervención quirúrgica ha requerido una preparación inmunológica exhaustiva y el uso de medicamentos costosos. Además del costo de la cirugía en sí, necesito cubrir los gastos de al menos dos meses de estadía para mi recuperación. Es por esto que hoy acudo a su generosidad con una necesidad aún mayor. Cualquier aporte, por pequeño que sea, me acerca a la posibilidad de recibir el tratamiento urgente que necesito para recuperar lo mejor posible mi visión y poder ver crecer a mi hija y brindarle el cuidado que merece. Adjunto a esta carta el informe médico de Venezuela y el informe previo de la doctora que me atendió antes de la colocación de la prótesis, para que puedan comprender mejor mi situación. Estaré eternamente agradecida por su apoyo y cualquier ayuda que puedan brindarme. Juntos, podemos hacer posible este nuevo capítulo en mi vida y en la de mi pequeña. El tiempo es crucial.
