Hello, my name is Andrea Alzate, and I’m an international teacher at Polenta Elementary School in North Carolina. I’m reaching out with a humble heart after my husband and I were in a terrible car accident on October 4th — just one day after he arrived from Colombia to visit me.
The impact hit the right side of the car, where he was sitting as a passenger. It was a terrifying moment that changed everything in just a few seconds. My car was declared a total loss, and my husband suffered five broken ribs, a broken collarbone, and several wounds on his shoulder and face.
Sadly, he doesn’t have international health insurance, and his hospital bills have already exceeded $8,000. We are now raising funds to cover his medical expenses and to help him return to Colombia, where he can continue his recovery surrounded by family and access more affordable medical care. The funds will also help us pay for a flight ticket that allows him to travel safely and comfortably, considering his current condition.
This has been one of the hardest moments of our lives, but we’re holding onto faith and gratitude. Every act of kindness — whether it’s a donation or simply sharing this page — brings us one step closer to helping him heal and rebuild after this painful experience.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read our story, for your compassion, and for your support. ❤️
