On March 4, Anderson suffered a devastating stroke in rural Cape Breton. In a medical emergency where every second matters, their remote location delayed life-saving treatment. More than an hour passed before he received emergency care at Sydney Hospital, and another four hours before he could be airlifted to Halifax for specialized treatment.

Before he left for the hospital, Anderson said to Nadia:

"I'm not coming back from this. Remember that I love you."

At that time, he could no longer breathe on his own. He was “locked in” - fully cognizant, but unable to move except to blink. Doctors prepared Nadia for the worst, warning that this might be the best recovery he could hope for.

But Anderson had other plans.

Through extraordinary determination, exceptional medical care, and Nadia's unwavering support, he began breathing independently again. He gradually regained more movement in his head and neck, allowing him to communicate using a letter board.

Every week brings new progress. Every small victory is hard-earned. And now we're asking for your help to keep that momentum going to support Anderson on his journey with Locked In Syndrome.

If you know Anderson and Nadia, you know they are the kind of people who quietly show up for others. Their warmth, humour, generosity, and compassion have touched countless lives.

As a community worker, Nadia has spent years supporting others through life's most difficult moments. She has connected friends to jobs, offered thoughtful guidance, and shown up with empathy whenever someone needed help. Together, she and Anderson have built a life centred on kindness, community, and helping others.

Now they need that same community to rally around them.

To access the rehabilitation Anderson needs, they are back in Toronto. This has brought enormous financial strain, and many significant expenses lie ahead.

Your donation will help with costs such as:
  • $12,000+ — A specialized wheelchair, ramps, and other essential accessibility equipment.
  • $5,000+ — Additional rehabilitation services, including physiotherapy, massage therapy, and somatic therapy to maximize Anderson's recovery.
  • $4,000 — Medical care and potential relocation costs for their beloved dog, Shadow.
  • $4,000+ — Managing incidental expenses related to healthcare, travel, and home maintenance between two provinces and four different hospitals.

In addition, Nadia has had to step away from much of her work to become Anderson's full-time caregiver. Between lost income, frequent travel, and the countless unexpected costs that accompany a life-changing medical event, the financial burden continues to grow.

Many of you across Nova Scotia and Ontario have already stepped forward with meals, transportation, caregiving, hospital visits, and countless acts of kindness. Thank you. Your generosity has created an incredible circle of care, and it has become a powerful source of encouragement for both Anderson and Nadia throughout this journey.

If you are able, please consider making a financial contribution to help us get to our $25,000+ goal. Every donation—large or small—will help Anderson continue his recovery and give Nadia the support she needs to care for him.

Thank you for standing with them during this difficult time.
