My name is Ansticie Lewis, and I’m reaching out as a mother who wants nothing more than to see her daughter, Anaya Lewis, succeed. Anaya began her college journey at the University of Buffalo with hope and determination, dreaming of becoming a psychologist. Her inspiration to pursue this path comes from her own family—her younger brother was diagnosed with autism and ADHD, and witnessing his journey has fueled her passion to help others facing similar challenges.

However, due to challenges related to my immigration status, Anaya was forced to pause her education. My own immigration status has also made it very difficult for me to find steady work, and even when I do, the pay is not enough to cover even half of Anaya’s college expenses, let alone all of them. This setback has been incredibly difficult for both of us, but Anaya’s faith in God and her resilience have never wavered.

During her time away from school, Anaya has applied for countless jobs, but opportunities have been limited. Despite these obstacles, she’s found ways to stay positive and productive—pursuing her passion for hair, nails, and makeup, and even creating content on TikTok in hopes of building a future for herself. Her creativity and determination shine through, even in the face of disappointment.

Recently, Anaya returned to campus to collect her belongings from storage. Seeing her friends and the life she had to put on hold was heartbreaking for her, and she struggled with feelings of being left behind. It was a painful reminder of how much she wants to return and finish what she started.
