Help Anaya Play Volleyball
The world of club sports can be great for kids but it's not always the case. That is why I am setting up this GoFundMe campaign for Anaya Wade and her mom Kayla Ybarra. Anaya is 15. She is also a teammate and best friend of my daughter Ella.
Two years ago, Anaya played volleyball for a club here in the Phoenix area that she is no longer associated with. Anaya's mom is on disability. During that season, her step-dad also had to go on long term disability. The team director told the family that she would allow them out of the remainder of the contract ($2,355) due to their circumstances and would allow Anaya to play for a different team in the future. Last year, Anaya played for a new, less expensive, non-profit team. She did great, made friends (including Ella) and enjoyed the new team until COVID shut volleyball down.
In the meantime, after about a year and a half, the first club director decided not to honor her word and sued Anaya's mom for the balance of the contract. She would not budge or negotiate. In court, the judge said he believed Anaya's mom about the agreement, but found that a written contract can't be modified orally. So, there is now a judgment against Kayla in the amount of $2,695, which includes fees. To make matters even worse, the original director will not release Anaya to play with her current club until the judgment is fully satisfied. The family simply doesn’t have the money to do that. They could also use help paying this year’s club fees of $2,000.
Anaya just wants to be a kid and play volleyball.
