This is Anastasiia with our younger son, James. On the left are pictures of Anastasiia with her father when she was little and her father today.
Anastasiia is our au pair from Ukraine, who we invited to join our family because we want our children to learn their language and heritage on their mother's side. Twenty-two years old, Anastasiia is a caring, steady presence in our home, and she's great with the kids.
But our hearts ache for her.
Her father has been called up by the Ukrainian military and deployed to dangerous territory in the Donetsk Oblast. He handed over his cell phone for operational security reasons, so she has only sketchy information about his location and well-being. Imagine knowing that your father is in danger but having no way to reach him to say "I love you." Imagine the terrible possibility that she has said so for the last time.
Anastasiia's mother is doing everything she can to supply her father with what he needs to be safe and secure, but this has exhausted her resources. Anastasiia is doing everything she can to support her mother. This week Anastasiia will again send her entire paycheck home to her mother, for family support.
We are supplementing that support, and we believe that others in our community might want to join in supporting Anastasiia, her mother and father, and all the communities in need in Ukraine. Our community is global -- from relatives and friends to people around the world who want to see Ukraine free and safe again, people who want to see that retrograde, bloodthirsty dictator Putin defeated in every way.
GoFundMe does not permit support for weapons or supplies to soldiers, so that is not the purpose of this appeal. This is support for Anastasiia's family in Svitlovodsk. Receipts will be transferred to Anastasiia and from her to her mother.
You might give because you care most about the tender heart of this beautiful, exemplary young woman. You might give because you care most about the opportunity to put tyranny on the back foot and create peace and security for millions of souls in our world. Whatever motivates your heart, please give what you can to support Anastasiia and her family.
